After several long years and multiple delays, Digimon Survive is finally here, and, for the most part, it was well worth the wait. The game features well over 100 Digimon for players to make friends with, allowing for endless combinations in battle. Initially, however, players will only have access to a handful of options, leading to many people wondering how to get more Digimon in Digimon Survive.

Thankfully, players won’t need to wait too long to bulk up their teams, with new Digimon becoming available from the end of Part 1. The process is a lot more Undertale than it is Pokemon, though, so may well end up confusing one or two players. This guide should help in that regard and will cover everything that players could ever need to know about befriending new Digimon in Digimon Survive.

In order to get more Digimon in Digimon Survive, players will need to take part in free battles. These are first introduced shortly after Aoi goes missing toward the end of Part 1, with more new “Free Bat.” areas being added as players progress through the main story. Once in a free battle, players will need to start a conversation with the Digimon that they’d like to befriend by selecting the “Talk” option and then cycling over to the list of foes by using the shoulder buttons and clicking on their name.

After initiating a conversation, players will be faced with three questions or statements and will need to reply to each of them using one of four possible responses. Choosing the best response will fill up the bar above the Digimon they’re talking to by two segments, with the other three leading to either losing or gaining one segment or the bar remaining unchanged. If players have three or more segments at the end of the conversation, they’ll be able to invite the Digimon to become friends or ask it for an item.
